The Active Birth Bed

The Active Birth Bed is the centre of our soft furnishings suite. Working in conjunction with the other products in the range, the bed allows women to use a wide variety of positions, enabling them to find the best posture for their labour.

The soft but supportive mattress provides a comfortable space for mothers to welcome their babies.

The Active Birth Bed is Covered in a High Performance Four-Way Stretch Fabric Specially Developed for Medical Applications

Our fabric is  fluid-proof, breathable and latex free, as well as being BS 5852 compliant, easy to clean in situ, and pleasing to the touch.
           
All seams are fully sealed with waterproof sealing tape and/or high frequency welding to prevent any ingress of fluids or cross infection.

The fabric is:

  • Anti-bacterial/Anti-fungal: will not support microbial or fungal growth including Salmonella, E Coli and MRSA
  • Waterproof: Water or oil based solutions will not penetrate or absorb into the fabric. Hydrostatic Head BS3424 > 1 metre
  • Breathable: Moisture vapour permeable BS5852
  • Tear Strength: BS4303 Severe Contract Grade
  • Tensile Strength: BS2576 1972 Severe Contract Grade
  • Urea Resistance: BS4324 part 19. No deterioration after 24 hours, 5.5ph, 8.8ph Urea soak
  • Easy to Maintain: Extremely Stain Resistant. Spillages can be easily removed using a damp sponge or cloth and wiping dry.
  • Flame Retardant: BS5852 Crib 5
  • 100% Polyester impregnated and multi-coated with aqueous based microporous polymers   
  • The fabric can be wiped down with alcohol free solutions or wipes, or removed and machine washed up to a temperature 70 degrees centigrade.

The Active Birth Bed is constructed of a single block of High Resilience Foam (HRF)

HRF is produced by using mixtures of polymeric polyols or special innoculated polyols.

HRF has a less uniform cell structure than standard foam, making it better able to support the human body, and more comfortable for women using the bed.

HFR recovers its original shape twice as quickly as standard foam. It is stable and resistant physically and chemically, including a special resistance to any deformations. HRF is 40% firmer than standard foams with the same density.
