New NHS Guidelines
on Childbirth
Women should have the opportunity to labour in water, as this is often far more comfortable. Hospitals are urged to make sure the facilities are in place for this: three pools for 1,000 births a year is seen as adequate provision.

New Drainage System
We have upgraded the linkage system connecting the 2’”ball valve to the rim mounted handle to improve the functionality and durability of the drainage system.
New Cowling
In response to suggestions from infection control specialists inspecting the new Barkantine Health Centre in London we have designed a fibreglass cowling to encase the drainage system at the back of the New Active Birth and Deluxe Pools.
The Cowling may be retro fitted to existing pools. Please contact us for further details.
Temperature Control System
We are in the process of developing a temperature control system to automatically regulate the water temperature in the hospital pools.
Emergency Evacuation System
One of the most important issues midwives need to address revolves around what happens if a women is incapacitated and needs to be removed from the pool. Manual handling regulations forbid midwives from lifting heavy women out of birth pools.
In many hospitals hoists have been installed to resolve this eventuality. But, hoists send a mixed message to a woman having a normal physiological labour in the pool and are slow to bring into action.
We are working on an economical portable system to address this issue.
Upgrade Service
The original New Active and Deluxe Pools were supplied with basic gate valve drains and without skirting panels.
We can upgrade your pool to current standards by replacing the drain with our new drainage system + cowling and fit a wrap around skirting panel.
The pool will need to be disconnected and returned to the factory for a short time (about 3 days). Please contact us on 0208 374 6963 for more information.
Active Birth Mat and Beanbag
In an active labour, it’s best for a woman to follow her instincts and to move her body and change positions. If she wants to be active and move around freely during her labour, she cannot do so easily and securely on a standard delivery bed.
Her movements and also her psychological attitude are bound to be restricted and inhibited by the confines of the bed.
On the floor, she can move freely and naturally. She’ll feel more stable and secure, and have the freedom to explore the movements and positions that are most comfortable for her during labour and birth - a sure way to instinctively do what’s best for her and her baby!
The benefits of being mobile and upright in labour have been well known for more than two decades, yet are only rarely put into practise.
This is often because of the lack of the simple expedient such as a clean, hygienic and comfortable space the mother can use for kneeling, standing or squatting.
With the provision of a suitable floor mat and a beanbag, the mother's movements are not dictated or restricted by the furniture.
We are developing an active birthing mat and bean bag made from Flame Retardant waterproof, MVP (Moisture Vapour Permeable) two way stretch fabric. The covers are easily wiped clean and can be washed up to a temperature of 70 deg C if necessary. Fully taped seams and a tensioned zip flap guards against ingress of fluids.
